The Peculiar Incident on Shady Street Review

27395333Hey guys! This week I’m working with the total sweetheart Lindsay Currie on a blog tour for the upcoming release of her novel “The Peculiar Incident on Shady Street”. Lindsay is so kind and I have had such an amazing time working with her on this tour.

I loved this book! The Peculiar Incident on Shady Street is about a girl named Tessa who is forced to relocate from Florida to Chicago. This is very hard on Tessa, who has to leave her best friend behind in Florida. It only makes matters worse when she gets to Chicago and finds out that her neighborhood is gray and cold, and her house is haunted.

Tessa is an awesome main character. Her voice really rings true as that of a seventh grader, and the experiences she goes through with the move are really relatable to kids who have had to move. I actually moved at the exact age that Tessa did, and Linsay’s portrayal was spot on. I really sympathized with Tessa as she tried to make new friends and adjust to her new life. Tessa handles everything that’s thrown at her with grace, and she keeps up her talents and passions as an artist while she’s at it. I think this makes an excellent character for a kids book because she is a great role model without feeling fake.

As for the plot, this book had it all. The plot was suspenseful, funny, interesting, and it definitely kept me on my toes. The scary parts were definitely spooky, but they weren’t anything that a kid couldn’t handle. I would say this book was more atmospheric and Halloween-y than terrifying, which is perfect for this age group. Lindsay does an awesome job of giving us enough suspense to keep us on the edge of our seats without making the book too much for midgrade readers.

Finally, I loved the classic mystery-solving kids’ gang aspect. The friends that Tessa makes are there for her when she needs someone to eat pizza with or to go to a graveyard with. These classic friendships are the kind that I grew up reading and the kind that always keeps me coming back to midgrade.

I would 100% recommend this to a friend or a friend’s kids. It has all of the elements of a great story for readers of any age, and I feel so lucky to have worked on this tour. You can get it here The Peculiar Incident on Shady Street
My final rating- 5/5
Thanks for reading my review, and until next time, happy reading 🙂

  1. “Her voice really rings true as that of a seventh grader”
It’s refreshing to know there are books that can do this. I think it’s hard to capture a younger voice and a lot of author’s can’t. I happen to live with a sixth grader who might really like this book.

  2. HEYY THERE, BLOG BUDDY. 😉😉

I LOOVED YOUR REVIEW. This is the first time I am hearing of Lindsay Currie and you have already made me fall in love with her. 😁

Can’t wait to read the book now.

AND AN AWESOME REVIEW, by the way. ❤❤❤
