Hey Guys! You may remember my review for “The Peculiar Incident On Shady Street” (you can read it The Peculiar Incident on Shady Street Review), an awesome spooky new MG book that was released earlier this month. Well, I’m the luckiest blogger ever because I got to interview Lindsay Currie, the amazing brain behind this novel. So without further ado, Linday Currie!
1) I know many writers have rituals for when they’re writing; special snack, only writing in the middle of the night, writing in pajamas, etc. Do you have a ritual like this, and if so, what is it?
Ahhh, yes. Rituals. I like to write with the Harry Potter soundtrack playing on Pandora. I also really enjoy cinnamon scented candles, so bonus points for writing days that involve those! My most productive times are often in the early morning, so I get up before the rest of my house does most days.
2) What were your biggest inspirations when you were writing this book? Books, soundtracks, movies, history?
My biggest inspiration was Chicago in general. Chicago has some fascinating history that lends itself to ghostly stories like PECULIAR INCIDENT. In fact, did you know that my neighborhood – Lincoln Park – used to be a graveyard? 🙂
3) How did you know you wanted to be a writer?
The thought first occurred to me in 4th grade as I was reading (and loving) Where the Red Fern Grows. Such a wonderful book, and I thought how magical it must be to be able to weave words together that make people feel. I didn’t pursue publication until many (MANY) years later, but that moment will always stick in my mind. Thank you, Wilson Rawls!
4) How do you deal with writer’s block?
I take walks around my neighborhood to get the writing juices flowing again! I also love the Chicago History Museum. It’s truly a gem.
5) What was your favorite part of writing this book?
Getting to know the characters. I love Tessa, Andrew, Nina and Richie and the more time I spent with them while writing, the more I felt like I knew them. I hope you guys enjoy them as much as I do!
Thank you all for reading this interview, and I highly suggest you head on over to Lindsay’s website to learn more! Until next time, happy reading 🙂
PS- You can get the book here 😉
