Hey you guys! So today I’m here to tell you about Nanowrimo, an incredibly fun challenge that Mhairi and I participate in. For those of you who don’t know, Nanowrimo is a crazy, fun, rewarding challenge where you aim to write 50,000 words in one month. It sounds crazy, I know, but as the inimitable J.K. Rowling once said, anything is possible if you’ve got enough nerve. So Mhairi and I are going to tell you about our projects for Nanowrimo, and we’ll be giving you weekly updates on our progress.
PS- If anyone is doing Nano and wants to be buddies, drop your username below and we’ll friend you!
I’m going to be writing a dark YA that centers around 3 girls- two princesses and their handmaiden. They have grown up together as best friends, inseparable. But as they get older issues of ruling and class threaten to break them apart. I ultimately aim for this book to be about 70,000-80,000 words long, the first 50,000 of which will be written during nano.
I am taking a break from a dystopian YA (50,000 done and 50,000 to go) to return to my home genre of mid-grade fantasy. This novel will follow a young boy as he takes charge of a hotel with infinite floors. I’m normally a hardcore planner, but I’m stepping back this time to give way to imagination. I’m going to cap this project at the end of the month and hopefully continue editing my 3 wips during December. My username is Mcusual, so feel free to send a friend request and a short synopsis of your story. I would love to make some Nano buddies and talk writing strategy with you all.
Morgan and I are so excited to be sharing some different perspectives and writing tips with you this month. The Nanowrimo community has been awesome so far, and we are excited to meet and write with all of you this November.
