The Glass Town Game

Hey guys! So, I am going to make a shocking admission: recently, I have not been reading a lot. I am in a really peculiar reading slump, and I DON’T like it! If any of you have any tips on getting back into reading when your brain is not working, then leave them in the comments. I’d love to hear them.

However, the one book that has been saving my butt recently is The Glass Town Game, by Catherynne M. Valente herself. This is the literary giant who wrote The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of her Own Making. Her books are poetry all the way through. She spins worlds that feel complete. Her characters can travel through a room, and it will be populated with perfect details down to the stitching on the cushions and the rhythm of the wind.

This book is simply beautiful. I figure, sometimes in life even the things we love get pushed aside. There is always more work to do or more meetings to attend. However, if you can take twenty minutes a day and read something that really makes you happy and enriches your life, it doesn’t matter that you’re not reading four books a day, because you’re still spending time with a hobby that you love. My resolution for this week is to read things that I really enjoy, and treat my reading less like a chore.

Here’s hoping for the return of my literary appetite and cozy winter reading sessions all around.

Happy Reading!
